Lower Similkameen Community Services Society is seeking a Cook to prepare full service meals for up to 30 people in a residential complex. Other duties include kitchen & dining room cleaning, meal service and menu planning. Work places are Mountain View Manor Seniors Supportive Housing and Kyalami Place Assisted Living. Qualifications include:

  • Experience in volume food preparation
  • Ability to organize and prepare nutritious and appealing meals
  • Basic computer skills including on-line ordering, email, and data entry to Excel spreadsheets 
  • Experience conducting inventories

  • Knowledge of food storage procedures
  • Knowledge of provincial health, sanitation and safety regulations, including WHMIS

CHILD & YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH CLINICIAN

Permanent – Part-Time 29.5 hours per week

Lower Similkameen Community Services Society, in partnership with the Ministry of Children and Family Development, Child and Youth Mental Health Services, is seeking a qualified individual to provide specialized mental health assessment and treatment services to children, youth and families when the child or youth are suffering serious emotional, psychological, behavioural and/or psychiatric illness. 

Hours:29.5 per week

Starting Wage:$33.06/hr, plus a comprehensive benefit package

(Grid 17, Step 1, UFCW Community Agreement)

Qualifications:  education, training and experience

  • MSW (Clinical Specialization or equivalent training/education), or comparable graduate degree at Master’s level. 
  • 2 years clinical experience working in child and youth mental services, with responsibility for providing a wide range of community based mental health services. 
  • Education or training in program planning, group facilitation and working with families and young children in conditions of risk.  
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.  
  • BC Class 5 Driver’s licence and access to an adequately insured reliable vehicle for work purposes
  • Clearance through the Criminal Records Review Program is required

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

Excellent communication skills (verbal & written); proficient use of computer and other IT; knowledge of child development, parenting, family systems, family violence, cross-cultural issues, community resources, group facilitation skills; and conflict resolution skills.

Licensed Practical Nurse

Casual – 4-8 hours per week

Lower Similkameen Community Services Society is seeking a qualified individual to provide medical oversight to staff of Kyalami Place in Keremeos, BC. The facility is a 14-unit Assisted Living community with 24-hour staffing.  This position reports to the Assisted Livng Housing Coordinator, and the Executive Director or designate. The LPN will work closely with the Assisted Living Housing Coordinator to monitor the eligibility of tenants, and to provide staff training and oversight on medication administration, and assignation of nursing tasks.

Hours:4-8 hours per week

Starting Wage: $25.50/hr

Qualifications:  education, training and experience

  • Clearance through the Criminal Records Review Program is required
  • Current Licensed Practical Nurse with full practicing licensure with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of BC
  • Strong clinical assessment skills and knowledge of commonly used medications including drug interactions and contraindications
  • Computer literate and familiar with electronic health records including MDS interRAI and eMAR.
  • Recent, related experience of two years
  • Proficient user of office equipment and software, including Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Demonstrated leadership ability or potential as evidenced in prior employment; community involvement, or personal initiatives
  • Human resource management experience an asset, including staffing, scheduling, training, education, staff development, and performance management
  • Knowledge of the legal and regulatory framework for Assisted Living in British Columbia including Community Care & Assisted Living Act, and Interior Health regulations, policies and procedures
  • Skilled in the delivery of client driven services that consistently meet competency standards
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to resolve conflict, coordinate programs and services for residents with divergent needs and interests
